What is Body-Mind Centering®?
Body-Mind Centering® is an experiential study of the body, movement, and consciousness founded by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, with a broad spectrum of applications from dance & yoga, to physical therapy, occupational therapy, and bodywork, to visual art, music, and more.
With embodiment at its heart, anatomy, physiology, evolution, and developmental movement are explored through movement, touch, voice, breath, and consciousness. Learning about ourselves from the inside out and working with the body and movement can affect change in our minds. As such the body and mind are interdependent and change with each other.
This is a relational creative practice, one of improvisation and exploration, that invites discovery and embodiment of the innate wisdom and organization within our bodies and builds our capacity to trust and listen to what the body has to say.
BMC® challenges many assumed hierarchies that are present in the study of the body and movement, expanding perspectives on what is possible to sense, feel, and act from.
